TIPPING THE PAIN SCALE

On March 21st and 22nd, the mvmnt. partnered with the Health Care Council of Chicago to host a showing of Tipping the Pain Scale, a film about the addiction crisis in America, at the Music Box and DuSable Museum. We had the honor of having Spoken Word Artist/Educator-Joseph Green and Pro Bowl Player-Darren Waller, who were also featured in the film, join us for this fundraising event. All funds collected from this event were used for the establishment of the basement.

We want to thank David Smith, as well as the team of HC3 and Tipping the Pain Scale for their participation and contribution!

Check out details about the film below.

HORROR AND HOPE

On October 28th, 2022 the mvmnt. hosted Horror and Hope, a Halloween event where members gathered to discuss #TheMeaningBehindThePhrase. This event detailed the real life horrors faced in our communities as it pertains to police brutality and injustices within the system. Discussion about phrases such as Skittles and Arizona and Toy Gun in the Park, that can be found on our merchandise were the highlight of this event. To help alleviate stress that can come from learning about such horrific events, the mvmnt. hosted a pumpkin painting session directly after the presentation and discussion.

All proceeds from this event went into funding our 2023 Summer Art Program - “Another Brick in The Wall”. For more information on programming, please visit Programming — THE MVMNT. With the help of Chicago Corvette Crossroads, we were able to donate 50 book-bags and raise $820.

SWEETEST DAY - THE ORIGINAL WAY

Spearheaded by Board Member Whitney Mittons, for the month of October, the mvmnt. collected and donated items to celebrate Sweetest Day the way it was intended to be celebrated.

Contrary to popular belief, Sweetest Day is not intended to be “Valentine’s Day for Men”, it was originally instituted by confectioners in the Great Lakes region as a day to show love to those who are often forgotten about in society. The target demographic was widow and orphans. While the day has evolved into something different, we still believe the original intention of the day is a very worthy cause that should not be forgotten.

We want to thank everyone who made both monetary and item donations, your contributions were greatly appreciated!

TOYS AND TUNES - 2023 TOY DRIVE

On Christmas Eve the mvmnt. then hit the streets of Chicago to donate over 100 toys to the children of Teresa Goldsberry Community house located on the south side of Chicago, and UCAN Residential Home located on the west side of Chicago, with the help of the men of the Pi Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi.

We would like to thank our partners, volunteers and all donors who helped make this year’s holiday drive one to remember, your contribution was greatly appreciated.
